Local prosecutor Lynn Leibovitz to be sworn in Friday as an Associate Judge of D.C. Superior Court

Lynn Leibovitz will be sworn in this afternoon as an Associate Judge in DC's Superior Court. The ceremony will take place in the Carl H. Moultrie I Courthouse.

WHO: Chief Judge Rufus King III, presiding Judge designate Lynn Leibovitz Associate Judge Robert Richter to administer the oath of office 
 
BACKGROUND: Ms. Leibovitz, age 42, has lived in Washington DC since 1982. She received her BA degree from Brown University and then moved to the District of Columbia to attend the Georgetown University Law Center, where she received her JD. After serving for a year as law clerk to Judge Robert Richter, Ms. Leibovitz joined the Enforcement Division of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. She went on to serve as an assistant US Attorney for eleven years, serving in the Appellate Division, Misdemeanor Trial, Felony Trial and Grand Jury Sections Superior Court Division and the federal Narcotics Section of the Criminal Division before joining the Homicide Section in 1995. Three years later Ms. Leibovitz was appointed to serve as the Office's Training Director. In 2000, she was appointed Deputy Chief of the Homicide Section, and in April 2001, became the Acting Chief of that section. Since 1997, Ms. Leibovitz has also served as an adjunct professor of Trial Advocacy at the Georgetown University Law Center. 
 
Ms. Leibovitz has served as an ex officio member of the Mayor's Child Fatality Review Committee, reviewing the circumstances of child fatalities within the District of Columbia, as well as the Mayor's Serious Incident and Fatality Review Committee, examining deaths of mentally retarded wards of the City. She also served as a volunteer with Jubilee Housing of Greater Washington, facilitating solutions to neighborhood safety concerns. 
 
Ms. Leibovitz is married and has two children, ages 12 and 9 years.
