D.C. Courts commemorate Black History Month Events each Wednesday at noon

February 12: Noon, Jurors' Lounge

DC Court of Appeals Chief Judge Annice Wagner and Superior Court of DC Chief Judge Rufus King will make welcoming remarks. There will be performances by the choirs from Woodson High School and Ballou High School. An intergenerational discussion of differing experiences of African-American women will take place between Miss Ernestine Anderson and her granddaughter Angela Anderson. The master of ceremonies will be Clements McKnight of Woodson Senior High School. 
 
February 19: Noon, Courtroom 48, Building A*

Family Court Presiding Judge Lee Satterfield and Deputy Presiding Judge Anita Josey-Herring will make welcoming remarks. The Neville Thomas Elementary School choir will open the day with a musical performance. The theme for this day's celebration is "Dreams Live in Me." There will be two mistresses of ceremonies: Ms. Ebony Boone, a Juvenile Probation Officer with the Court, and her daughter Nia, age 3. Ms. Viola Bradford will speak about the civil rights movement; she is a teacher Seaton Elementary School. The Jefferson Junior High School choir will perform. Students from the School without Walls will read essays on the theme of the day. 
 
February 26: Noon, Courtroom 48, Building A*

The theme for the final event will be "What I want to be; who inspires me." The event will feature performances by the Woodson High School Jazz Ensemble as well as the school's dance troupe. The Anne Beers Elementary School Poetry Slam! Team will make a return performance and students from Coolidge High School will read essays on the topic of the day. The mistress of ceremonies will be Miss Angela Sellers.
